South Carolina Department of Corrections receives top honors from American Correctional Association
The American Correctional Association has announced that the South Carolina Department of Corrections has received an Award of Excellence in the category of Victim Services. More than 400 programs from around the country in 19 different categories were submitted to the ACA. South Carolina Victim Services was one of five nationally recognized and the only one among southeastern states.
"All too often the victim of the crime is left unnoticed," said Michael Moore, director of the South Carolina Department of Corrections. " At the department of corrections we ensure that crime victims are treated with dignity, respect and sensitivity. This award is a tribute to the fine work that our Division of Victim Services performs daily with registered victims throughout the state."
The American Correctional Association also awarded honorable mentions to the Department of Corrections emergency response team and to mental health care services. All of these received recognition in the Excellence in Corrections publication produced by the American Correctional Association.
